launch rpm

Post by dsilva7819 »

What would be a good launch rpm for a 2200lb car. 4500 stall converter 5.14 gears transbrake. Cam works from 4500 to 7200. DAN

I am against revving one up and loading it on the convertor. My suggestion is to try several different rpms and start with maybe 3,00 rpm and flash the convertor by stomping the pedal as you are ready to launch and release the brake. Your rpm at launch should improve by flashing the convertor like this. Adjust your rpm uo and down slightly to see what works best.

Why is it a bad idea to go flat against the converter? I am not arguing with you, just asking.I only ask because that is what I do and I come here to learn from those more experienced.

Not a bad idea, you won't hurt anything unless you sit on it too long and fry the converter. Most cars will have a better 60 ft time if you rev limit below the stall speed and let the converter "flash" up to the stall speed. You can also adjust your reaction time by raising or lowering the launch rpm.

You need to loosen up the convertor some more. wheelsup is correct in how to maximize the launch.

I was told to activate the transbrake with no rpm limit and see how high the rpms go then set the launch rpm 500 below this. I always thought that it was better to flash the converter ex. if your converter has a 5500 stall launch at 3000. this way the converter will hit 5500 much harder.
