Using only hi gear in Pg.

Post by econo racer » Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:57 am

I can slow my car down about 6 tenths in the 1/8th using only hi gear in my PG trans with brake. It slows me down from 6.9 1/8th to 7.50 class. Will this hurt my trans life span? Have extra depth pan and large cooler. Converter flashes about 5200. Sometimes I like to try 2 classes.

Won't hurt it a bit, just need to make sure your trans brake allows for hi gear launches as well as low gear....A standard or pro tree brake doesn't. They have to be made for it....

How about footbraking in high gear, if you have a pro tree tranny brake .I'd like to try this so I could try running the 7.00 class without changing my 6.50 set up .Dan

No problem doing that too. I drive around the pits in high gear and do my burnouts in high gear only......trans still looks new inside....just gonna be a dog off the line.....

OK thanks , I understand that it won't come off the line as hard. I am just looking for away to kill a 1/2 second with out having to make changes to my 6.50 set up. I have wanted to try this but have not had a chance yet . It took me a few TnT sessions to zero in on 6.50 kept going a .04-.05 either side of it.

When going hi only which is better leaving at 4k or 4.5k? I like running top bulb racing sometimes. :D

Leave at whatever rpm your car responds to the best.....but don't run all the way against the converter, you need to be able to "flash" it at the hit....
