700 to 4l60e linkage options

Post by dfarr67 » Mon Aug 20, 2018 4:42 pm

1989 Chev k1500
Moving from 700 to 4l60e, was looking for early one piece 4l60e case and ended up with 1996 core. Would like to retain trans mounted p/n switch. How is the rod type linkage rationalized with cable type.

They were moving from rod to cable around 95.

The on-case PRNDL switch requires the right case (96 should still have the bosses) or an adapter bracket. It also requires the extended length shift shaft, which can be changed out with the pan down.

AFAIK, if you have all the 89 rod setup, you can bolt-up and go with it based on 95 swaps into 80s stuff I've done. Have you run into trouble, or just doing a preflight ck list?

Just thinking ahead. I was told that since the rod linkage is spring loaded into the frame should be good to bolt and go. This core has the switch on case- I'll have to look at the 1999 LS truck harness I have and see what plug configuration it has and get the right switch.
