The gear ratios are quite different. 2nd gear on Turbo 400 is 1.48:1, top gear on Powerglide is 1:1.

He is comparing second gear on a TH400 to first gear on a Powerglide.

IIRC 1st gear on a powerglide is 1.82:1 reduction.

As mentioned PG is 1.82 1st, 1.0 2nd
th400 is 1.48 2nd, 1.0 3rd
I know as much as I can learn and try to keep an open mind to anything!

If I didn't overthink stuff I wouldn't be on speedtalk!

Trivial comment - some PG's are 1.76.

1.82 X 3.73 = 6.78 1.48 X 3.73 =5.52 .

Are you "pulling out" of your driveway, or stop light or the line at drag strip? Low gear ratio in a glide can run anywhere from 1.60 to 1 to 2.05 to 1 and anything in between aftermarket. 1.76 is factory v8 low gear; 1.82 is factory 6 cyl ratio; Jeep glides had 1.95 or so in stock form. Not sure why you need to start in 2nd unless tire spin under race conditions was uncontrollable.

Oldhead - sorry I'm an old head myself with too many dead brain cells
to understand what question is in your post. It appears you are happy that
you feel little difference between a PG and your T400 when starting in
2nd ??

fdicrasto - seen PG's in postal Jeeps but didn't know about ratio difference.
Thanks for that bit of info.
