Anyone know where to find aluminum valve body for THM 350? Everyone i ask said they've never heard of one so after months of digging through old hot rod books i finally found my old Ron Sessions book from the 80's and it clearly shows a discontinued B&M Aluminum valve body. Also says Fairbanks,Art Carr, and Ati sold them but i cant find one.I know the Powerglides have consumed most all the HP stuff but i just don't understand why there's no availability for a 350? Finally company's are making lightweight aluminum forward and direct drums for 350's and even Ati now offers a new aluminum 350 pump half as well as many other LW parts but no valve body? I'm wanting to do an all LW build on one for Pro Street/race application and i like the 350. Please don't advise me on powerglide or 400 not interested i need the gear for 3300 lb car and i don't like weight or drag of 400. I know all about PG's used them for years with great success but not for this one. I want an all out LW 350 THM. Have used them for years on all out race cars and never broke a case. I figure speed talk is my only hope? Any help??

I also tried finding an aluminium valve body for a T350. No luck. Really surprised, I thought there would still be a good market for them. Two takers here already!

I don't think i'll hold my breath for one. I should have posted in the engine section think i would have had better luck there. If i find anything i'll give you a shout!!

TH350's aren't that popular of a transmission. As hp has gone up, the need for transmissions to hold it has as well. The biggest issue is that regardless of the amount of money you spend on one, they are still hp limited, and not very reliable at the higher hp levels. That's why the low demand and lack of parts like that. As much as you don't like to hear it, the TH400 is a better application for your car. And in regards to the drag and weight, you and your car won't see a difference in the time slip at all. Yes, there are some performance parts available for the th350, but unless you're limited to it by class rules, there are better choices of transmissions out there.

10-4 Thanks for the responses! I was hoping after posting on here maybe somebody would know somebody that would know somebody that would know somebody? Ain't looking good. Car seems to be real weight sensitive, every round i take weight off car picks up on ET consistently. Guess i'll have to spend money somewhere else.

I vaguely remember the aluminum valve body but haven't had one in my hands. Wonder if there was problems with them because they didn't stick around long.
If looking at dumping weight have you considered a TH200 or ProTrans ( based on a 904)? They both seem to be popular in NHRA classes.

Really good advice! Been looking at those two in particular,just so hard to start on something i don't have any extra parts or any experience with but i do think either one would accomplish what i'm trying to do. Make car lighter and faster.

With modern CNC equipment it wouldn't be all that complicated to make one. Most of the cost would be in the programming; perhaps you could get some people together for a group buy.

The cast iron valve body acts a "case girdle" to keep the case from flexing and cracking. This could be be the reason you never broke a case... That might be why you do not see an aluminum valve body for these anymore. You actually answered your own question here. "Have used them for years on all out race cars and never broke a case"

Í don't buy the case girdle idea as a reason for not using an alum VB for the T350.. I have seen alum bodies advertised for the T400, which get a lot more HP run through them typically than a T350; both cases are of similar design, & in fact, the 350 case is shorter than the 400, so it is probably more rigid & less likely to flex. Chryslers used alum VBs without problems.

The upper valve body is in the case, torsional stress can cause disruption of fluid paths, not a good thing. Reality is the most sophisticated 350's are used in lower hp applications, particularly NHRA class cars. Coan manufactures a line of planetary components with a wide range of ratio options, other than that market, which is relatively limited, there's simply not a reason to provide a alloy valve body for a 350.
Reid produces SFI compliant cases for 400 and bolt on bell housing to aid in cross application, it doesn't make sense to putter with a obsolete and inferior component from a supplier point of view.
I do get the fact that some guys just have to swim against the current, there's C-6/C-4, 200R4, AOD, and Torqueflite nut huggers out there and many of them run very well, but not enough of them willing to spend the bucks justify the expense of competing with the 400/Glide market.

The reason is there's just not a market for them because the 400 and powerglide's have so much aftermarket performance support already. Have just gave up on the lightweight 350 stuff. Certainly a 350 would hold up with an aluminum valve body. I found out that the company's out there advertising aluminum forward and direct drums and aluminum pumps for turbo 350's don't even shelf stock any of these parts. There all custom machine order with 3 to 6 months waiting list depending on how many you order then they really still don't want to fool with it. Found this out when i broke out the credit card and called to order? It's just frustrating to see this stuff out there advertised then find out it's really not that available? I was thinking i'd wait a few years for all these parts to come around and that was back in the 70's and 80's and now it's 2018?? Took me a while to figure this out!!

The cast iron valve body is still going to keep the case more rigid. Not worth the extra cost of the valve body and very little weight savings where it really does not matter. Use the Vega light weight sunshell, and the late forward drum with the front part of the drum machined down. Both of these parts take off apx 3.5 - 4 pounds of rotating mass. Both parts will cost you less than $50.00. Weight reduction works best with small blocks, or motors that have no bottom end torque.

10-4 Intend on using the vega sunshell. Been calling and there getting harder to find also. I think some of the builders are holding on to them. I remember throwing them away now i could sell all i could get. Many of the new transmission rebuild suppliers list them on there web sites but i haven't found one yet that had one.If you got your hopes up on an aluminum forward or direct drum don't be in any hurry i haven't found one yet they'll have to make it.
