another gearing ?

Post by Novaz » Sun Aug 20, 2006 11:37 am

Am i better off changing tire height or gearing
car is running 10.35/10.40 @114/116
2800#
Blown 350 5#
Th400
3.90
28.00tire
I am getting max revs around the 1000ft mark footbraking off the line with a 3800 stall
looking at the math a 3.50gear approx would give me a bigger change than a 29/30" tire but i dont have that much power so what be the more effeective.
Thanks

Your problem is not your gear as much is your converter is slipping very badly. Change out the gear and your converter will slip worst because now it sees a tank instead of a Camaro or whatever you race. At your e.t you should have at the very least 128-130 mph
With the 3.90 gear and tire size you have, you should be crossing the finish line around 6200-6500 max rpm. You are so far off with the mph and finish line rpm for the e/t its not funny. Give me a call if you want to get a good converter for that thing. You should be able to run a lot faster with less rpm and the gear you have now. It is guaranteed.

Hey Novaz, You say you're getting
max revs around the 1000ft mark
What is the RPM at the 1000 ft mark and what RPM are you going through the lights at?

What are your 60' times running? Tell us about chassis/suspension setup.

my best 60' is 1.444
since posting I have had the trans out and had the convertor split it was black inside and the oil was burnt worse than mcdonalds this was a TSI unit supposedly 3800 stall 8" trans shop thinks it was a much lower stall and may be why it was burnt trying to footbrake it that high.
rest of the car is fairly stock I have a pair of double adjustables on the rear 9" with leafs and slappers up front are konis double adjust coilovers and adjustable A arms also rack and pinion
car is also stripped to 2700# including me am hoping to catch a Test this weekend

A transbrake would be a good idea!

I am ok with footbraking at present
my rpm @1000' was 6100
according to most calcs i have used speed for the time should be 125+
so I am hoping that maybe it has just been a bad convertor
