"I am still looking for some info on how the B&J 2-speed O.D. unit was made???".

How does this one work?

The B&J 2-speed OD unit.

I just e-mailed Gear Venders and flat asked them if they have any info on it.

I just want to know is all..

And as silly as this sounds as deep as I have gotten in here, I figure a top-loader OD or an old A833 OD 4-speed tranny would cost less and be less trouble than an OD rear end conversion.

But I am concerned that the A833 isn't as strong in OD as it should be..

I think I found my answer on what happened to the B & J 2-speed O. D. unit..

I wiki'd up 2-speed O.D. information and IMHO, it appears that Gear Vendors bought them and then I figure that they destroyed all existing units and engineering drawings so that they wouldn't have to compete against B & J. Also I figure that non competition and discloser documents were signed.

Anybody know different then please set me straight.

I will buy a B & J unit IF I ever see one at a swap meet! Might even reverse engineer it and go into production?? Sucker has to be as simple as a 2-speed, "in/out", box..

I can't afford to produce the 1969 Ford Cougar Eliminator 2-speed, "Chevy 12-bolt design", rear end or I would be on it like, "white on rice"!

And I contacted both Auto Gear and MOSERS about doing this.. Me and my BSME degree for free!!

Hell, a modern B/W, T-85, 3-speed O.D. would be great, imho!!

BUT not for the kids, but rather us old, "H.A.M.B." guys.

And another old pdq67 story!!!

If you don't want to read it, then skip on by!

I think my friend, "Jimmy-Gene", back in HS had a T-85 O. D. behind his new 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL, 390" engine and it ran fine. He married my classmate Jackie and was a year older than me.

True story here from back then in HS. Early to mid '60's!!

A, "farm boy" friend of mine that we all called, "Daisy Dale", by us that knew him, just a class before me, bought a brand new black 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 427, 2/4, engine. I think Dale spent his, "calf", money to buy it.. (Me, class of '65!!)..

He used to get called out by my other class mate James older brother Keith that had a hopped up, (Keith said that it was a 283??), but looking back, I figure it was a 1964, 327 engine Deuce car.

Anyway, the Deuce would ALMOST clean the clock of the '63, 427 car until Dale went home and did a tune-up and then come back in the early evening and he would beat the Deuce by 7 car lengths out in front of Posey's gas station, Atlanta, MO on Old Hwy 63!!

Been there, done that!!

Surely there is somebody out there that has a parts sheet and instructions on how to fix a B & J, 2-speed, O/D..

Call B&J. I know they don't make it anymore, but they may have some ideas for you.

FC,

I just might do that.

And I do figure that GV did buy them out because, aren't they the only add-on OD game in town now?

I know B&J still are separate from GV, but there is a chance that GV bought the rights to their overdrive unit. B&J still do great trans for TAD and TAFC as well as monster trucks. I think B&J bought the rights to quickchange rears. I think that is who it was. They did that about 6 years ago, so I forgot. I will have to ask them again when I talk to them next time.

Jack,

Damn, I don't believe you have one!!

Great!

What does it fit?

And is it complete and in good working order ready to install on it's designed rear end application? All the needed stuff with it sorta deal?

I don't want one that is worn out that has to be rebuilt, since, I doubt if there are any parts around to rebuild it? But rather one that is usable...

Please get back to me.

Thanks,

pdq67

PS., as my long gone Buddy from south of B'Ham used ta say, "Why boy, I'd pay $10 ta watch a cat shit!!"...

The B&J unit I have is complete, ready to go inline behind a transmission. Included are adapters for TH350 and TH400. I've never seen one which mounted direct to the rear axle.

Jack,

In your humble opinion, do you think that there MIGHT be a way to install it a rear end pumpkin?

I dearly love the '69 Cougar Eliminator 2-speed, but I don't think that prints are available nowadays.

Come back.

Could be done with an adapter, but the housing is two feet long.
