New Production Manager

Post by jed » Sat Apr 14, 2018 9:02 am

The owner of the business hired his friend, who was formerly a ware house manager, to up production.
After about 6 weeks on the job and running of the CNC machinest he, the new production manager, decides
he will run the CNC machine.
After clumsily and half ass machining 3/4 blocks he came into the assembly room
where 3 of us were working and ask "which blocks get clearanced for stroker cranks"
After the initial shock Marty spoke up and being very respectful said "the ones that get stroker cranks".
Without a word the new Production Manager turned and walked out.

You can't make this stuff up.

Different specs, same results. That's business in a sole propitiator shop now days. Owner hires friends and expects experienced employees to drop 20 years of knowledge into someone's head in 20 minutes.

How can someone that has never done it, "decide" they will run a cnc machine? The experienced guy must make it look easy.

The production mgt did spend a lot of time watching and learning how the CNC machine operated
When the CNC operator quit the PM could load and unload a block and some initial setup.
However from there he spent a lot of time on the phone being walked through the probing and
Matching process.
However he has now crashed the machine and will cost $7k to fix it.

Oh well couldent happen to a nicer guy.

When AP Green was 1st getting into refractory gunning plastics, Charlie and I were invited to a BIG meeting and when a VP said something stupid, Charlie said bull-shit and that was the last meeting we were invited to!

We watched them lose over a $1,000,000 and the possibility of a lawsuit before they did it our way! Took about two years, but it works now!
