If you have heart issues you may want to read a little more about flax seed.

Several yrs. ago a co worker had a heart attack. When he came back to work, later one he gave me I guess about a 1.5 lb. bag of flax seed. He told me that the stuff was not good for him to use any more.

Don't know why that might have been because ALL the stuff I've found online says the exact opposite!! Last week I spent about 30 minutes reading on probably 10 or so medical diet type websites trying to find one that said flax seed was bad for those with heart disease but alas, there were none to find. All the ones that I found had nothing but praise for flax seed where healthy eating was concerned and not just for heart health.

Next time you see that co worker, how about asking him about some specifics on why his Dr wanted him to stop eating flax seed. I'd also suggest that he find another heart specialist!
I have always heard it was good for you, if you could get real whole wheat it's good for your heart but good luck with that, the wheat grain in bread in the store has been stripped down and is not good along with everything else in it.

I use about a tablespoon daily in my "overnight oats" recipes. I eat this 5-6 times per week for breakfast (I also use a teaspoon of chia seeds as well). My blood pressure is around 100/70 with a resting heart rate of 40-45 and a cholesterol level that is rarely over 120. I am middle age and don't have a family history of heart issues, and am a competitive cyclist, so take my stats in context.

I have also created a pizza dough recipe with it; it essentially replaces about 1/5 the volume of flour. Although I grew up in NY, I prefer a crust that has a lot of character to it. Nothing wrong with Neapolitan, but most found stateside are made from cheap flour and poor water.

I use this like I eat anything else - in moderation. It has been around and cultivated for centuries so it can't be all that bad.

Flax is a plant ... like cotton is a plant. Actual LINEN is made from FLAX. The seeds are also used as an arthritis remedy.
