Where is a good place to buy a reasonably priced 1st Gen. SBC scatter-shield?
I need it, an SFI approved damper and flywheel too.
ATI or Lakewood??

This isn't an area where you should be cheaping out. You should be asking who makes the best one. Take it from someone who's had an explosion and parts through the dash.

Re: Scatter-shield
A used one is just like a new one, but it will be much less money

Nooooo! once the SFI sticker expires the composition of the metal degrades. Even if it lies on a shelf for 10 years. Same as seatbelts...lol. SFI cert....what a money making racket. I have no problem when safety makes sense. Yeah, clutch blows apart and messes up the bell housing, yep cert is no good. A part that's out of date and never seen service or normal service...come on.

Thanks Joe, you are a, "tight-wa--", er, eh, "frugal", like me!bigjoe1 wrote:A used one is just like a new one, but it will be much less money

Yes, I know about clutch explosions. The only thing holding the 4-speed in Tom's '58 'Vette ragtop was the tranny mount and the pilot bushing! Everything else except for the flywheel was GONE and it had a chunk out of it. Let go at 8,000 rpm!

Speedway Motors for a cheap new one....I bought a 2 piece Lakewood for a SBC once for $75.....only took 2-3 hours to get the block/tranny mounting faces parallel using a DCM clutch surfacer and a jury rigged clamping set up......yep! Saved tons onf $$$ on that deal because my time is "FREE!"......I really like the QuickTime scattershields....they are pretty near perfect out of the box.
Re: Scatter-shield
I'm backing out of the SFI parts because I'm not going to race my stuff.RCJ wrote:does it have to be SFI ?
Now where can I buy an inexpensive non-SFI approved steel scatter-shield for a SBC in my 1st Gen car?

Re: Scatter-shield
if this is for the toy you wanna run around at 8-9000rpm, id get the sfi stuff. not pretty when clutch parts come thru the floor.
Re: Scatter-shield
Right lefty o,
I'm backing off of the 8,000 rpm top-end so won't need SFI certified parts.
Now I just need an inexpensive non-SFI cert. hydro-formed scatter shield.
Where can I buy one and I don't want used off ebay and such.

Nobody sells a discounted non-SFI hydro-formed SBC, "scatter-shield" that will fit my 1st Gen. Camaro?
