I usually see what it is in the last few minutes, figure out what I realistically would pay for it, enter that max bid in the box and wait til the last 5 seconds to send my max bid. Works 9 out of 10 times.

Re: how to win on ebay?
The way to "win" on Ebay is to find somewhere else to buy stuff. The whole "winning" thing is designed to make it seem like a contest, instead of a purchase. Testosterone takes over, and "winning" becomes more important than the actual purchase.
Disclaimer, I've bought, and sold a bunch of stuff on Ebay. If I'm interested in something I'll bid whatever I'm willing to pay, whenever. If I get it good, if I don't that's good too.

I used to be a people person, but people ruined it.

I have been using Esnipe for years, set it and forget it.Have lost a couple but it was more than I was willing to pay anyway. As I said, just put the highest price you are willing to pay and forget it.You will get a email telling you if you won or lost.Tom
Re: how to win on ebay?
I keep waiting for eBay to implement the "15 minute rule" like gunbroker has to make it like a real auction (the auctioneer isn't gonna quit calling bids until people quit making them), but they never have. Must be something in it for them to keep it like it is..
I did the ebay thing a long time ago, but now it's basically just a place to get cheapo chinese import stuff.

I'm with Tom.
I use Esnipe, put the price you want to pay, then forget it.
No bidding war with you and someone else.
About 3 seconds before end, if the price is still under your max, it will send it in.
You either get it or not.
No trying to one up anyone, or anything.

Add a couple of cents more than you think it's worth...........
People tend to think in even increments. 20.00, 20.50...........
So you bid 20.02, 20.52 and just beat the competition by a couple of cents................

Re: how to win on ebay?
With the snipe program I don't have to sit in front of the computer at odd hours of the day/night waiting for that final seconds.
And mine is entered at 3 seconds till end.
(while I'm doing something else)

Re: how to win on ebay?
I just do it manually with multiple PCs. I get all stressed out in the last seconds LOL, but still it is fun when you see that you have beaten a "sniper" (or two), that thought they had it in the bag. Only ever lost once, so far.

Re: how to win on ebay?
I normally decide a price Im willing to pay early, and bid in last few seconds.
Otherwise you tend to get shill bidders.
I had one guy I was going to buy ford capri mk1 from outside of ebay for 15k which I thought was a fair offer.
he put it on ebay, he was shill bidding and car sold for 9k which was his own high bid, I was the second highest bid at 7k when he started biding on his own car cause my auto bid was $8999.
Then contacted me and said you can have it for 15k.
I told him nope 7k or [DELETE THIS POST] off, and reported him to ebay after he told me he bid on his own car.
Australian consumer affairs got in on the act and tax department (selling as an business not paying taxes as he had a lot of other sales) which ebay reported him, not me.
2 months later a friend had the car for 6.5K at auction.
