Which is it?

Post by RAS »

NHRA has a dilemma. Is this going to be an entertainment company or a racing sanctioning body? I say this because IMO they are not succeeding at either. Ever since RJR (Winston) was forced out of auto racing by the Government both NASCAR and NHRA have been tweaking their formats to try and keep the fans interested. The NHRA seems to be following the NASCAR lead in most cases.
I'm old school and the .90s classes are a waste. Bring back the GAS class' and innovation. Pounds per cubic inch. Pro Mod is ridiculous. The cost is worse than fuel. Both will die an ugly death. Bring in injected nitro Funny Car. Buy good used from the big show cars and run it all year on 1 set of valve springs and one set of rods! This is a low RPM deal. A money maker. 5.50s @ 270. What a show, and a full 1/4 mile pull.
Pro Stock should be factory sheet metal. In fact the whole body from the dog house back should be factory stock. Bring STOCK back to the class. If you don't put people in the seats change something, innovate. No Prep is bringing the fans back. Why? The average drag racer made how much money racing this past year. ZERO. Well, actually they lost money but, had lots of fun. Does it have to be this way?
