Awesome results with a Jones cam
Well I was hoping that I woulda had my new cam from the previous post I put up thanking them for figuring out that they had gotten me the wrong cam. We talked and decided on a spec and it was sent I got it and spent the money to install it buying new gaskets and since this is my daily i rented a car so i had something to drive. Well needless to say something in the grinding process went wrong and no matter what I did it hit 2 rods making it unuseable. Now I know it was in the grinding cus I have 3 cams all stock base circle and some with bigger lobes an they all would install fine. Even towed the car to a local friends shop to have him try and after 3 days would not work he even tried a huge solid roller and it turned over freely with it installed it too had a stock base circle as well. So after paying 200 for a rental, 120 for gaskets, cleaner and fluids, and then 240 for my buddies shop fee I had to install my old 233/235 hyd roller so i could drive my car again.
Was talking with Mike Jones and he said he could have me one asap while i went on a buisness trip and it would be there for me waiting and for a great price. Well i have used 2 cams of his in the past and always were amazing, shoulda never went elsewhere, and so I asked what it would be worth over the current cam he said his 240/243 600/592 108 7243 swap hyd roller would make round 533 crank and current cam is round 490 without losing much down low. I said thts a good deal of hp for me so pulled the trigger.
Just as promised it was there waiting when i got home, went in perfect turned over without a hiccup and it too was a stock base as well got it all buttoned up which was easier since I removed the engine to have it engine dynoed replace the oil pan with a better one and wanted to do some other testing while out. So after some timing and jetting it made a best of 492 and 508 ft tq with the old cam and peaked at 5900 rpms. With the new cam and no other changes other than optimizing the jetting and the timing it cam out with 556 hp and 530 tq and peaked at 6300 rpms. only lost 12 tq down low and new cam took over after 3300 rpms and being i have a 3200 stall dont think ill ever notice. Runs great pulls super hard and screams to shift point.
Thanks Mike Jones awesome results and couldnt be happier with it. Now just need to see if the other company will ever answer my emails and voicemails and get me my money back

Man... You change cams more than I change oil!
Seriously though... thanks for sharing all of your different combo experiments. Have you had that beast to the track yet?

Re: Awesome results with a Jones cam
What was the lobe separation angle of the on that hit compared to the Jones cam?
Re: Awesome results with a Jones cam
I know an for me its part of the fun of having an old school muscle car to be able to continue to change, upgrade, experiment, an optimize the combonovadude wrote:Man... You change cams more than I change oil!

As for the combo its a 397 sbc stroker 11.4 to 1 cr afr 195 comp heads, cp bullet pistons, scat stroker rods, scat 3.875 crank, 750 billet weekend warrior blp carp, msd billet hei, 3200 stall, stage 2 th350, 3.55 gears and auburn posi moser axles, 70 chev impala daily driver
Lobe sep on Jones cam 108, old cam 108, the new cam that came from other vendor 108 the wrong cam they sent me 110 all stock base circle but only the new one they sent wouldnt turn over without hitting.

Which intake and mods on the intake were used when you hit the dyno? Nice gains on a cam change!

Wow that is a great gain for a cam change I wish there was a cam change like that for my Cleveland stocker that I could get without changing the lift and a 300 rpm gain.Good for you.
Re: Awesome results with a Jones cam
Bonus points for putting it in a 70 Impala, sounds like a fun car.
Re: Awesome results with a Jones cam
Yeah i have always liked something different hence the 70 impala its big but fun still only weighs 3890 without in it an its a 4 door gots to take the kiddoes.
I tried 2 intakes the first was my vic jr with a gasket match no real porting done was used with open 1 in spacer. The other was my tflow fully ported rpm airgap with matching 1 in open spacer. The vic made 569 at 6400 but lost more tq than the rpm so i took the slightly less peak of 556 until i can have my vic jr fully reworked an then it will go back on was told building the floor an some epoxy wk can bring the vic jr up in tq to match the rpm. Tflow got the rpm to flow 280 on short side an 300 on long he flowed before an after.
The pull with the old cam was made without tryin the vic jr or a 1 in spacer so it may hve gained 10 to 12 more horse power with that but i didnt hve time to check. But even if it hit 510 its still a killer gain to be had

Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.
Re: Awesome results with a Jones cam
Life happened haha with 4 kiddoes 2, 4, 10, an 12 an im stay at hm dad during the day woman wks m-f 7am to 6pm as a nurse an most weekends at prm job for extra an i work from 11pm to 6am m through thur plus im goin to school to finish my nursin degree the track isnt huge on the list of priorities. If i do great as ive stated numerous times this is a daily driver rain snow sleet an sun, it may see the track once or twice if im lucky but havent been able to get it there. When i do ill let everyone know until then its something i want to do but dont need it. Its fun, pretty dam fast for a street car, paid off, an s original all i really care bout. If i wanted a race car i would make it much faster an less streetable. If i get it to the track tht will be great bad thing bout ut we have only one an its a ways away from me an closed most the fall season an all.of the winter an dont reopen til late april. Maybe this year will be the year i get it to the track.vortecpro wrote:"I will get it to the track in the next week" Sept 4 2015
