Times two with Mr. Sherman, he`s got the years of experience on the exact engine your looking for. He`s been building nasty street/ strip fighters for decades. The first Engine Masters Champion, I could say more but you get the idea.
Re: Quality So Cal engine builder
I was thinking of Big Joe for a turn key and the Desert guys have a good reputation
who is going to maintain
Yourself?
If you want to assemble yourself there are some excellent machine shops like Evans Speed in El Monte
but you have to project manager the specs, approve source of the parts
but no matter who you get to build you want an idea of parts source
start by getting weight, gearing and trans parameters
what rpm do you want to run
do you want to run years between freshen ups or do you want to set on KILL
how often do you want to change valve springs?
what gas do you want to run> compression> combustion chamber
are you thinking of a stock or aftermarket block?
If aftermarket large lifter bores and big cam tunnel and why limit to 383 then?
rod and rod length
are you thinking of a packaged rotating assembly and sticking it in a stock block?

Joe Sherman comes to mind he's built a lot of 383s, IMM would be a great choice as well.
Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.

Burbank Speed in Burbank or QMP Racing in Chatsworth are both good.

Not much relevance to this in Southern California. You can drive 45 minutes and be in any of 4 or 5 (or more) area codes.

I lived in So Cal for over 35 years, and it would help pinpoint his area.engineguyBill wrote:FWIWLSP wrote:What area code in So Cal are you in?

I still call the local drugstores "Thrifty" and SAveOn, Evans is still in the phone book and I have trouble remembering the new name
