I think this is a great idea. We hear all the talk. Now's the time to show what you've got. I'm really surprised that so many have declined, and I have much respect for the ones who show. If they really can produce good numbers, it seems like a chance for some very good publicity. If they have the confidence to show up they know they have a good product and I really don't expect to see much difference. Tuned is tuned. Some can and others tell stories. =D> =D> =D>

My feeling is this. The participants will have the exceptionally rare oppertunity to compare their work against other competitors products on the ' same ' engine !! Who says that a non top 3 contendor this year wont be back the next year with something that will blow everybody else away ? The height of the bar has never really been established because a carb shoot out has never occured before with such an ' elite ' group of fuel system specialists in one place at one time. Sure you might have read about a carb comparison in a magazine in the past but the coverage was limited mostly to one or two people.

This shoot out will be the very first one that I can recall with the best of the best showing up. I really think that there will be more achieved than just measuring horse power to crown a winner.

Ok then, that being said, who else can be contacted ?

Somebody mentioned Willy Krupp. Think he would be interested ? I also thought of Dan Smith who owns Da Vinci carbs in Houston. Is Dan still doing big carbs or is he just doing motorcycle stuff now ? Been years since I chatted with Dan and dont know what hes been up to.

Any others ? Theres a bunch on the west coast. Anybody know any of them ? Carburetor Shop, Jet Carburetion as a couple that come to mind.

Ok, contacted Chuck Nyuttens shop this morning and gave a heads up on the shoot out. Chuck was busy with a customer so I spoke to another individual but it certainly peaked their interest. I gave them the info about the Speed Talk thread or E Mail Rick @ BLP. Well see if Chucks interested. SZ

So do we have a running list of those that have committed as well as those that have declined?

Also, Is there a good reason to exclude E85 builders? The test mule wouldn't have to be built specifically for E85, and it is a piece of cake to switch fuels on the dyno. There aren't many out there, and you may not even get any to commit. E85 seems to be taking off, so if you are talking true innovation, it should be included.

IMO any carb builder who frequents these forums to offer advice, or promote their product, should enter. Talk the talk and walk the walk.

The E-85 fuel will probably be up to Mike at BLP if he will let it in . I my self would say know because if somebody show's up with some oxygenated fuel, it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Everybody should run the same fuel. That way there will not be any arguing. I'm pretty sure that the motor that BLP has will not be the one that will be in the shoot out. Dave Braswell has already said that he has line's on a engine. If you can build a E-85 carb you should be able to do one on racing gas.

One engine, one fuel and run whatca brung.

I think down the road when the truth come out about the government programs for ethanol motor fuel, we will all know what a septic pork barrel project it was. Basically a way for special interest groups to wring more money out of the tax payers. Ethanol is an excellent motor fuel ( as is methanol), but to make it at the expense of the food chain is ridiculous. A fine example of our Federal Government and special interest groups in collusion.

This seems the best guideline.

Hey Dave B.

Who else do you know out west that would be interested ? Probably a few more that havent been contacted yet. Opinions ? Da Vinci ? Jet ? Carburetor Shop in Cal ? Think VDL would be interested ? SZ

BTW, Im pretty dissapointed that the shop producing the SV-1 carb isnt interested. I was anxious to see that carb put to the test. SZ

I talked with Bob at the Carb Shop, he's in. Steve if you could give him a call and fill him in on the details as things solidify it would be apprieciated. Their phone number is, 909-947-3575. Add one more to the list, don't forget QFT from yesterday.

x2

heres my suggestions for scoring

1 . score is based on average corrected HP from Peak TQ RPM to Peak HP RPM for each individual run

2 "Out of the Box" score is the 1st pull corrected average HP from Peak TQ RPM to Peak HP RPM for each individual run

3. carbs cannot be touched after initial lodgment until your second pull. this will eliminate adavantage of later competitors getting wind of what the engine likes tune wise.

4. limit tuning to any carb changes and to dynos regs fuel pressure only.
