I'd like to see an icon that indicates the threads that I have participated in.

I agree with everything mentioned so far, especailly the pics and attachments. It'd also be nice if we could send and recieve PM's while still on the page we are looking at, maybe through a pop up window (like an IM). It would also be cool if we could select different color borders, sizes of fonts, or backgrounds, but that's not super critical.
Send PM's without leaving the page, and dragging and dropping attachments to posts. 2 biggest things.

I'd like to be able to specify how many posts show on a page.
Some of the discussions are realllllly long and I'd much rather load 40-60 posts and scroll down through them (and often back up again when I need to double check what someone said earlier) rather than clicking through different pages. vBulletin and other forum software usually have that setting as an option in the user control panel. I don't know if phpBB offers that. It might be something you could just turn on via the Admin control panel.
A related option is "show printable view" under "thread tools" in vBulletin and that strips out some of the formatting and shows 40 posts on a page which makes it a lot easier when you want to print off/save a discussion for future reference.
cheers,
Michael
