Carpet queen on the race track = failure.

You can see where the roll bar punched through the floor pan when the car is upside down.

 Well, so much for 'rollover protection'...... Better off with none at all than a 'cosmetic roll bar'. Glad no one was seriously injured.

Aren't there any rules requiring a welded cage on such cars? You cannot expect a bar to hold when its tied in only to a thin unibody floorpan. These guys are lucky that the bar itself didn't snap their necks!

Shaking head,

It was an "HPDE" open track day event. Only when competing do you need a fully welded roll cage with side intrusion.

HPDE events are scary as anyone can participate.. all you need is a car, helmet and long sleeves. They're mostly full of people who have no car control skills what so ever doing 150mph in their Porsches, Vettes, etc.

 Wow! Sunday drivers! I'll stay clear of them when they are on the track...... Or on the road following the event.

Its crazy enough around here just during rush hour traffic......

:D Now that's my kind of racing! At the end of the 1st video where the steering wheel comes off...... Reminds me of a similar occurrence that happened back in '68 when I was home on leave. Only my drunk buddy who was driving thought it was so funny, he tossed the steering wheel out the window! I was riding shotgun and dug frantically through the junk in his glove box until I came up with a pair of vice-grip pliers, which I snapped on the steering shaft and began steering the car. This all took place in about 3 seconds, but it seemed more like 5 minutes at the time. We were driving on an old two lane black top road near Merryville, Louisiana doing about 80 MPH in a '55 Chevy when this happened.

Thanks for the memories,

Harry

I love the last picture of the car where the rear bumper says "look better go faster"
