Anyone seen these videos?

Post by blykins »

Apparently this is a machine to do a semi-break-in before a dyno run or an installation. I just like watching the pistons on the SBC.

There's quite a bit of noise that will come from an engine, even without combustion. Neat stuff.

I'd love to see how much oil flow there is back to the pan on an engine running at speed.

They are fun to watch. Many mass rebuilders have similar machines.

We have a non-firing dyno (250hp spintron) that we can spin a completed engine with to do both valvetrain and friction testing with. It is pretty cool to watch it run in short block form, and anything over about 8500 rpm's the pistons appear to be just sitting there. You can put your hand on the piston tops and they just feel like they are vibrating.

I would think some of the noise is coming from the air intake and exhaust. Interesting videos.

Seems a lot slow to break in a cam. ???? is that handled ???? Other than that, it's very cool.
Is the defect in what I see, or what I'm seeing with ?
