Names of cities that have been changed to reflect local, rather than outer (Western) variations or pronunciations?

Except, of course, the European examples. They were just changed because.

THAT would explain why some nutjob was having problems telling my wife how to program the "Tee-Ree"......

That would also explain why many of these places have been bombed.

Very, very interesting responses. In all probability, each of the answers could be correct. And probably are.

All of the cities listed have populations in excess of 3 million. And we have never heard of most of them.

It is estimated that almost half of the worlds population now lives in urban areas leaving the rural areas increasingly vacant. The projections are that more than half of the world will live in cities in the near future.

If the Greenheads want something to worry about instead of Global Warming (now called Climate Change since it is cooling, not warming) they might consider: water supply and waste water treatment, sewage, traffic density, building materials, spread of infectious disease due to population density, and a host of other urban problems.

Thank you for the post David. Most do not understand. But the rest of the world is following our model (USA). 100 years ago we were a rural nation. We are now an urban/suburban nation. The world is following.
