Very sad, but then again Ed's suffering is over.
Just think of the wonderful knowledge and experiences Ed has shared (I arrived too late here to really get to know him. Bummer). In that way, Ed lives on.

Cannot ad much more except my condolences to Ed's family
I met Ed here, we quickly became "long distance" friends.
We spoke many times & it was always enjoyable, the man had a lot to offer, he was a good person with old school class.
Those of us who have been here a while know the impact he made on just this site with his very direct no BS approach as a Moderator & the difference we have seen without his help
RIP Ed you will be missed,, on SpeedTalk as well as in the lives of those you touched with your knowledge & especially your spirit & down to earth ethics

Yea that bothers me also. It's a sad world we live in that some one that defended our country like Ed did had to go like that.blykins wrote:What gets me the most is that he died all alone with no one to be there with him.

When I think of Ed I am reminded of the following poem....
THE BRIDGE BUILDER
An old man, going a lone highway,
Came at the evening cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim-
That sullen stream had no fears for him;
But he turned, when he reached the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim near,
"You are wasting strength in building here.
Your journey will end with the ending day;
You never again must pass this way.
You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build you the bridge at the eventide?"
The builder lifted his old gray head.

A youth whose feet must pass this way.

And while he may have spent some time alone, at the "end" Ed was NOT alone..........I for one do not think he would have just given up and died after all he had been through and TRIUMPHED over.....it was not his way. Ed was beckoned and gladly took the Hand that was proferred. Peace and a life without fear and pain is now his.
It is only sad for those left behind. Ed went "home".

I agree, Ed was not alone at the end. I was in contact with him via text messages throughout his battle with cancer, his messages over the past couple months were always full of praise to the Lord who brought a dead man back to life (many times in fact). A Lord who encouraged him through every difficult time. A Lord who brought him into a relationship that was so close that Ed was in constant longing to see what was in store for him, whether it was on this earth or in heaven. I am fully assured that when Ed passed away, His Jesus took him by the hand and Ed joyously went with Him.
