Looking for Opinions

Post by bruce69camaro »

Most of you know Keith Starner (K-Star) from this site and he has given me the opportunity to rework his website.

This is my first attempt at creating a website and I'd like to know some of your opinions, good or bad.

I think it turned out ok and from this point, I can only make things better for him.

If there are others that do this for a hobby, like me or as a full time job and you'd like to share some of your tips with me, please let me hear them, I'm always willing to learn.

Thanks

Hi Bruce,

The site looks petty good. I'd like to suggest a couple of things for
your consideration.

Try removing the small photos along the top of the page. They are
tough to view and look out of place. Maybe use some graphic lines
to create the divider between the banner and mid page.

Have a gallery for photos with higer resolulton images.

I would also re-work the logo which is sitting about 3/4 down the main
page. Make it bigger and sharper. My thinking is move it to the right
side of the main banner and edit the image so you see only the oval
and interior colour.

If you need help with that, i can do it quickly and upload it.

EDIT: Here is an example of what I mean.

Have you been talking to someone else?

It's funny you mentioned the car pictures, because that was a discussion we had. It was a 50/50 decision to use it.

I also agree with the small logo. I'dlike to add it to the top banner, but I'm not sure how to do it. I guess the image would need to be cut out and then a layer added with the image to the banner, correct?

What can I say, I'm a rookie.....but I'll keep working at it.

Thanks

Make it all one image and use it as the banner across the top.

Thumbnail pictures should be no more than 12K in size. The henrikvalet_small picture is nearly a meg! Shrink these down to the actual 96x60 they are displayed at, then link the thumbnail to the full size picture.
In your links at the left, you are abusing the apostrophe in Customer's and Video's. Remove the apostrophes.
I would have put a break just after K-star_new.gif.
I usually only have one <html> tag at the beginning.
Other than that, it looks good to me. :D

Ok, I see what your saying, but let me clarify something, I meant for the thumbnail pictures (96 x 90) just to be there and not linked to anything.

It was meant to act like a divider.

I'll remove the apostrophes today at lunch.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

My contributions.
1: Name, town, phone number on every page.
2: Link to home page on every page. You never know what page people come in on.
3: Center the pages
4: Each page should have it's own title instead of just K-star automotive.
5: You are going to need some keywords in the header section or google will ignore it.

What width did you make this? Must be way bigger than 900.
I ask because it gets weird and all spread out funny on my wide screen.

Some items.

1. Clear out your computers temp files then connect using a dial up connection. What is fast with a DSL / Cable can be unbearable with a phone line. ( It is important to have a clear computer otherwise you are just looking at files on your hard drive ) With my dial up, the header loaded but I could not view any other info as the page was slowly loading.

2. The logo referenced in Procision-Auto's post needs to be a bit more subtle, personal beliefs have no place in business unless you are targeting only a very specific demographic. I am not making a judgment as to the personal belief, just to the delivery. A personal logo in a discrete corner gets the message across. ( Food products that are in the main have discrete Kosher logos. Items targeted only towards users of Kosher products may tend to have larger logos. )

For example, the company I work for has a anti-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx sign that is larger than their company name. The anti sign is 12 ft x 15 ft, their company name atop the anti sign is 2 ft x 10 ft, not very professional.

Concerning the slow loading. I am on Hughesnet satellite. Most of the time it is zippy enough but nowhere near cable speed.

Today is a fast day though. This site, particularly the pictures load slowly. While this could be related to too big of picture files it may be something else. I have seen this before where the web host server is not up to par or has oversold the space. Might be something to look into. If the webhost looks "too cheap" or is one of the big players like godaddy there is usually a reason it's cheap ... like everything else in our biz.

Thanks for all the input.

I'm not a pro at this by far, but I'm taking each comment, one by one and hopefully I can get things worked out.

I also noticed that the images are loading slowly.

The site is best viewed on a 800 x600 res.

If anyone noticed I did change some things around and some things
are in the making, but like I said, I am not a pro at this and it may take me a liitle, but I'm trying.

Thanks again,

Bruce
