Hi all,

One of the rear bearings of my C3 vette gave up on my last week and I'm busy replacing them. I have a problem in the sense that the bearings need to be shimmed correctly. I have a set of shims, but to get close to a minimum I would need some special shims that are not available.
I was thinking of lapping the spacer to size on a piece of glass with a sanding paper on it, however I'm unsure if I would be able to keep it square.
Any ideas ?

That process, although tedious if there's much to remove, will work fine as long as if by 'spacer' you mean a relatively thick piece, say 2 mm or more. Anything less will be too flexible unless it's temporarily attached to some backing material. However a machine shop should be able to use a surface grinder to reduce shims or spacers as needed, e.g.: http://www.grizzly.com/products/6-x-12- ... rizzly.com

I just shimmed mine, ecklers has shim kit with varying thicknesses and by matching different pairs you can get really close.
Then sand the last 0.001-0.002" with paper.
tolerance is wide from 0.001" to 0.008", though I shimmed close to 0.
