SFI 2.7C

Post by cgarb »

My stepbrother is looking to buy a dragster. He found an older chassis that was cert in 1998. What updates would a car that old need to have to be able to cert today? I know nothing about dragsters myself I've always raced a door car. I told him to do some homework before he bought it because it could turn into a money pit.

Chrome-moly or mild steel?

One thing I know is the cage area around the head might need extra bars or different setup.
(not sure when that changed, might be before 98)

If the thickness of the metal is good, probably not much needed?

But best to have an inspector look at it.
Is there a chassis builder close to him?

If he has a rulebook look in the chassis area.

In this pic, the bars labeled 'H' changed possibly from when it was last cert.

From the pictures he showed me I can see the helmet bars. He may not even end up with the car, he made an offer lower than the asking price, someone was in front of him to look at it. If its meant to be I guess then he will find out. Thanks guys.
