Narrower brake shoes on '66 chevy II..

Post by sc2dave »

'66 Chevy II drums all around. It calls for 2" wide shoes in the rear and 2.5" on the front. I ordered some and I got the rears correct but the fronts also were 2" Can I still get away with 2"? I don't want the hassle of repackaging, going to post office, etc. It's only a 194 6cyl. and I won't be racing it.

I would think in a panic situation on ice or rain slick road the rear end would come around after locking up.

That probably happens on almost any non-abs equipped car.

They should be fine but if they are the long shoe and short shoe type, just order another set and install all long shoes in the front for a little additional stopping power. It's an old trick a lot of guys use for the rear but I don't see a reason not to use it up front.
