Generally if you don't need to have a carburetor with a choke tower, you're going to be better off with a carburetor that was cast without one.

Keep in mind that most of the carburetors out there with choke towers were designed orginially for some OEM application in the 60's or 70's there are a lot better carburetors out there today cast without a choke tower and designed for racing.

As for the 2bl deal unless you run some top of 2bl topper or flow-control style air cleaner the flat are on top next to the venturi can cause a flow distruption. Just look at the flow numbers comparing a contoured air cleaner base on a 4bl carburetor vs. a flat base.
