Mike,

Did they test her to failure to see what they could re-work to get closer to the edge? Heck what good is an engine that will last 600 Miles but is down on power, if she only needs to make it 515 Miles!

Doug:

I see your point; but no - they did not fail the engine. These guys worked very hard to get to this point and now with the knowledge they gained on the inertia dyno - must finish 12 engines immediately for Speedweeks.

They do plan to get back to work immediately after the 500 because they found the main problem and would like to do as you suggest when more time allows.

Mike,

I assume the engine had one of your carbs on it.

No, it did not. This team buys some carb parts from us, but they finish their carbs in-house.

Mike,
What method of air flow and fuel measurement? flow turbines, non-contact?

Javier:

All flow devices are turbine style. The guys at Excelleration are investigating various methods of flow measurement in an attempt to reduce time delay and still maintain accuracy & repeatability.

Mike,
Can you give us some idea of how much less power the engine was making after all of those miles?

Stan:
This question was greatly discussed after the test because there appeared to be no measurable loss shown. In fact, there was slight evidence that the engine picked up a little power the longer it ran. The team plans to evaluate this further in the future.

testing

Mike,
Can you give us the Flux Capacitor settings? Were they optimized during the test?

I could - but then I'd have to kill ya!
Were they optimized during the test?
Only on 6 of the cylinders.

Just out of curiousity... roughly how much fuel did they go through with that long of a test at WOT. How big of a supply tank does the dyno facility run?

Don:
Initial warm-up & 700 miles = 160 gallons consumed.

dyno test

Post by Adger Smith »

Mike, If I had thoes settings, even the 6 cyl settings, I would be sooo fast.
LOL!
MAN, THAT IS PRETTY GOOD MILEAGE!!

I read the other day that Pro Golfers average walking 900 miles in one year just on the Pro tour. They also consume 22 gallons of alcohol on that tour. Now THAT IS pretty good mileage!!

Hi Mike,

I was under the impression, from the people I have talked to that a moderate percentage of the engine damage (missed shifts aside) comes FROM the pitstops, or caution laps. Can your sources confirm any of that, Mike? I understand this was their first go-round on this type of testing, but can that dyno simulate going up thru the gears, etc?

Neat stuff!

id love to know what the air turbine numbers were...?
before during and the rate of recovery after lifting at high rpm
and those ..rate of increases from the rpm ranges they studied..?
do the nascars totally lift at all doing a circuit at speed on a normal lap?
