Flow bench plans (build your own)?

Post by d4490 »

Does anyone know where I can get plans to build my own flow bench? I know Audie has a inexpensive flow tester, but I was looking at building my own flow bench.

Try this site-

It's dedicated to DYI flow benches. Lots of info. on there, including articles on how to build your own.

Building a flowbench is quite a project, also a learning experience. To get one that moves 600 CFM worth of air at 28" of water is also not cheap, but can be done for well less than a SF-600. The DIY page listed has some good help. I built one 10 years ago and was never happy with the end results, I just added a new flow element to the bench and I have almost gotten it to where it should be. The element is from http://www.flowperformance.com/, this is not a shameless plug I purchased mine for cash money and it is good, when I fix all the little things on my bench and give it a real test I will let you all know. The electronics and software work well the repeatability good I have not had the time to get all the little leaks out of my bench to make any real calibration attempts to post about accuracy. Worth a look if you are building a bench.

Thanks for the link to my flowbench forum. I created the forum after looking for info to build my own bench a few years ago and not finding much out there on the net. I am by no means a flowbench guru, just an average guy trying to learn something on his own (well with the help of others too). The forum is geared to the home DIY'er but there are some well know head guru's that stop on by and helpout those of us who are just learning. This forum )SpeedTalk) has also been interesting in hearing the different ways others are testing parts. I've read things here and ran to my flowbench to try out something I woulda never thought of till I read it here.

I have been using the Flow Performance (FP) setup on my bench for the past year (field testing) and would not go back to the old way of testing. I'm upgrading in the near future to the computer setup instead of the PV setup. I do use water manometers for some of my testing also. I have the FP setup with my homemade flow element and it is very repeatable from test to test.
