crankshaft specialist
This firm has done 6 Triumph Spitfire cranks for us including modification of rod journal oilways, stroking, radius of fillets, lightening of crank webs, etc. They are a full service crank shop. Have been pleased with their work. Doug Rowe, the owner, is a "HOOT". One thing is that he would rather you pay with a check and not a credit card. No complaints!!!!!!! They can build up journals if you want. They do not heat treat. Hope this helps.
In 1996 I took three balance jobs to them. After I got them back, I noticed none of the rods had been ground on, though they had drilled the inertia ring on two of the harmonic balancers. Since I had already checked the rods and knew they were 15+ grams off from lightest to heaviest, I was suspicious enough to take the assemblies to another shop. One crank was 48 grams off at one end, and the others weren't much better, plus a 15 or so gram scatter on rod and piston weights. I had to replace the two munged balancers as well.
When I equired about this, Crankshaft Specialist told me this was within their standard limits for balancing.
This is why I purchased my own balancing machine a few months later.

In May of 2017 I asked Doug Rowe at Crankshaft specialists to do some cranks for me as he said he had the raw forgings I needed. He was recommended to me by DSS Racing.
Well 11 months later and a host of lies and bullshyt, I'm still waiting.
Run don't walk the other way from this guy. He has more bullshyt stories and excuses than you can imagine. I'm taking him to court. He leaves me no other choice.

Let me tell you a story about Dave Olsen Mile high crankshaftCompetition Engines wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:48 pm Give Dave Olsen at Mile High Crankshafts in Denver a call. Excellent repair work and a super nice guy. Recommended by many of the crank manufacturers. 303-781-6767 You can also visit with him at PRI if you are going.
Several years ago I had Dave grinding my cranks, he-himself grinds a good crank, but is very less than honest. I took a virgin std GM 454 crank up there to his shop and dropped it off, drove back to pick it up at a later date, 140 miles round trip, balanced the crank, prepped the crank, installed the crank in the block, got the number 2 piston in and noticed at .080 rod side clearance, then I noticed the fillet was ground completely off right up against the counter weight. I loaded the crank up the next day drove another 70 miles up there to his (Daves) shop and confronted him, this is what I was told....:"my crank was like that when I brought it to him" although this virgin STD 454 crank came out of my friends 1 owner boat. The guy lied right to my face. Heres the real story: it seems Dave had gotten tired of his work force and fired every one in the shop prior to dropping off my crank, and thought it would be good idea to to teach his wife how to grind cranks on my virgin crank. The guy is a POS.
BTW I don't need the buisiness, but we fix cranks, we grind cranks with out playing games with the index or stroke, and run circles around Dave Olsen and his wife-----just facts

Re: Crankshaft Specialist - Memphis - any experiences?
I haven't posted for awhile on here, do to the drama, good god, some people need to get a life. WOW. Anyhow, I have one story from the shop mentioned on the thread title. A friend of mine had a really nice, trick Scat billet big block ford crank with a lot of time no hole balancing, counterweight profiling, etc, was still std/std. It had a small crack on the snout where it meets the front main journal. He found these guys. Big promises. Oh yeah, no problem, we will cut off the snout, drill and tap the center, put in a threaded stud, drill and tap the snout, srew it together, and weld it back together, and grind the snout. $600. He said, ok. Shipped it out. Got it back, looked good. Put it back in service. 5th pass on the new combo, the snout broke off, that whole piece with the dampner, pulleys, lower belt drive pulley, etc, flew out from under the car at 150 mph. Needless to say, his 5 pass new engine, all new vales, etc, was pretty damaged. They found the piece in the weeds, and, it was obvious all they did, grind the crack out, weld it, and grind the weld down. When he called, they laughed at him, and said, you were trying to be a cheap ass, you got what you deserved. No, this guy is far from a cheap ass, he was just hoping to use a nice crank again. If they said, nope, can't do it, he would have bought a new one. Ass clowns.
