Is the 10555C OK for a street car?

Increase in volume of 25% over stock volume pump.
Features the addition of anticavitation grooves machined in the body and cover. The grooves reduce cavitation effects in high RPM applications. Pressure will be reduced at idle. The 10555C uses the high pressure spring only. Must use new 12550 drive shaft. For racing applications only.

I am wondering the same thing. Why is it for racing use only?

Probably because the grooves lower low RPM & idle pressure which gets some people all excited
Personally I could care less about idle pressure as long as there is some & it doesn't change for no apparent reason.

All the gauge tells you is you have a resistance to delivery pressure, bypass setpoint & possibly if you have an airation, return or delivery issue if you see goofy crap going on at higher RPM's

I tell people that almost word-for-word and they look at me like I just ran over their cat.

If it is a street car, why not just use the 10555 or 10552 select pump?

I thought the Melling Select pumps had billet gears.. this is from the Competition Products website;

"Melling "M Select" Performance Oil Pump w/Extended Shafts
The drive and idler shafts have been extended to allow for additional support into the cover. This eliminates dynamic shaft deflection at increased rpm levels. The cover is doweled to the pump housing to assure alignment of shaft bores. The housing and cover are CNC machined and manganese phosphate coated for wear and rust protection. The gears are billet steel. The relief valve features a screw-in plug for easy spring change. Includes intermediate pump shaft."

Is this old and no longer true? When did they change the gear material in the select pumps? I just bought a new 10552 select pump from Stefs.. they said they had an old one on the shelf..new in a box dated April 07.

Not sure about in stock or not, but I have had the billet aluminum pump apart and it does have billet gears.
