What is the oil path out of the oil pump pressure side on a 440 Dodge engine?
What size are the lifter oiling feed passages?
Thank you

Well, I don't know, but I'd make sure you're running .120" needle and seat assemblies in the carb, if that helps.

Sorry to rehijack but Troy what makes you say that 120 N&S are needed on a 440 unless its making big power, I have heard rumours that wedge engines like to run a bit richer to make the same power, is this inefficiency that causes this or this another rumour spread by those who do not understand what an engine needs ????
Also does this apply {the 120 N&S } to 383's aswell ????
Cheers Carl...

You guys are almost as funny as the Smothers Brothers!!
it has 4 needle and seats to go along with the 2 Dominators to answer your comical reply and runs in the single digits in the 1/4mile...
When the vacuum system oil tank isn't full :D

The liftyers get tons of oil. The rocker arms don't.

I can not tell you where the actual oil passages are and the design of them from pump to rockers. I can however tell you that the only lubrication starved pieces are the upper end.

We have done some wierd things, and have heard of others doing wierd things to get the upper end to live.

Indy usses a oil feed from the rear of Cam Galley to pipe into their heads which have internal oil channels in them to supply the rocker shafts.

I have one doing well out there with T&D Rockers, Big Springs, and we also used the rear cam galley as oil supply and modified the factory cast heads to be able to feed a continous pressure to the rocker shafts.

The easiest way I have found to get oil on top is to drill the timed oil holes in the cam bearings to be a little bigger with a small chamfer cut in them and to drill the timed oil channels in the camshaft to the same size hole as the oil hole coming through the block up through the bolt hole in the heads. Those intersecting holes in the camshaft I put a big chamfer in. That gives you a lot larger timed window of lubrication and when used in connection with a T&D Shaft system works great.

Oil pump draws from a block mounted pick-up through an internal passage.
Filtered, pressurized oil goes from the oil pump mounting pad to the pass side lifter oil galley. (#1 main and #1 cam bearing get fed off this passage too)
Mains 2-5 are fed from the pass side lifter oil galley.
The drivers side lifter galley is fed from a crossover in the back of the block.
Cam is fed from the mains.
Rockers from the #4 cam bearing.

O.K., so you mean the from the oil pump pad to to the lifter galley?

It's supposed to be 9/16", but sometimes it's not all the way through.

lifter oil feed galleys are roughly 9/16" too.

There are some popular mods:

Ensuring the passage from pump to galley is at least 9/16" all the way through, or opening it up to either 19/32" or 5/8".

Opening up the lifter galley to main feed passages 2-5 from 1/4" to 9/32" or 17/64". (but NOT the main to cam passages)

Bushing lifter bores in solid roller race engines and opening up the pass side oil galley past the second lifter bushing.

One other thing you can do, drive a soft plug into the rear of the drivers side lifter oil galley. Drys up oil to drivers side lifters. Dave

The lifters are in the main oil feed galleries. Many people bush the lifters to seal up the oil leaks. If you bush the lifters and want to run pushrod oiling then you have to drill the bushings.

I think this is a new record for the most ridiculously unrelated response to a thread starter.
Better get that post count up!

I used the solid bronze bushing, then drilled a .060 hole and a machined groove around the inside for oiling. I would rather not shut off oil to the lifters, even if using external rocker oiling.

The most popular mod is probablly the oil pick-up. the stock is 3/8's and many open this up to 1/2", but you have to be careful. There are nice external line set-up's for these engines.
