Cometics

Post by Darin Morgan »

The Cometic head gaskets have SOLVED all of our problems both in the Super series engines and the Pro Stock engines. They are the greatest thing since sliced bread in my opinion. We use them over again about five times. They do have one little problem. They are to good when used with Nitrous! We always used the copper gaskets with nitrous and when you blew a head gasket, the head gasket was usually the only thing to go along with the pistons. With the Cometic gaskets, the gaskets are so good it takes out the block and the head instead of the gasket! I have seen blocks melted between the cylinders and the gaskets still in one piece. We still use copper gaskets in the Nitrous engines because of this.

No,, no reason to I know of.
The Cometics have a Viton coating on them & seal very well as has been noted assuming you have the correct surface finish.
The FelPros may be excellent also but try to get something unusual from them LOL
Cometics are available from about .027 through something like .120 without much hassle at all.

Cometics

The guy Kevyn at Cometics went out of his way and helped me, He gave me a p[art number to suit the gasket I want and will make it for me
Not too many companyies do that now days hey
Oh and at no extra cost either
Although by the time I get them in Australia they will be expensive

I reckon I solved the oring in the block prblem as well
I left the stainless steel oring in flace
Got a fine flat bastard file and filed them back to level with the block
then 800 wet rubbed the whole block deck
And I was very careful not to actually sand the block
Looks to me a very good finish and im hoping the cometics will seal on it

Cometic vs Felpro

Post by SB 377 »

In my humble opinion, I feel the Cometic is a better product. I was having trouble with head gaskets leaking on my 351 Cleveland. I got in touch with Cometic, told them what changes I needed to make to the design of the headgasket, and the made me a custom set. The new gaskets have worked flawlessly.

Thanks for everyones input on these gaskets. The customer was all for the Cometics until Darin Morgan stated about the gaskets wont burn out like the Fel Pro but possibly burn out the head or block. He isnt quite comfortable with the nitrous tune up he got from Shannon Jenkins yet so he will use the Fel Pros for the ooops factor to help with damage control.
Im going to start using them on all the other NA engines I build though. Thanks again, Brent

I've been working with Cometic and they just finished the tooling for Pontiac Aftermarket Blocks 4.410 bore is possible now!

Great gaskets from a great company.
