I may have already asked this one time before on here. If I have, I apologize.
I have a 12.5:1 434 SBC. It has stock Brodix Dragon Slayers on it from Weingartner with 2.08/1.60 valves, and a solid roller cam. The cam is a regrind and the duration is 291/299 at .020" and 261/269 at .050", .683 and .678 lift at lash (1.6 in/ex rockers), with a 106.5 LSA installed at a 102-ish ICL. It's a leftover cam that I'm using out of convenience.
It's going in a 3000 lb '68 Nova with a 'Glide/6000 stall and 4.88's, plus 28x9 Hoosier slicks.
Application is a small tire class/occasional bracket race on a very sketchy dragstrip surface, 1/8 mile.
I have the choice of a stone stock Edelbrock 2970 and a 1050 Dominator to run on it, or I have Speier ported 2892 and 950 4150 to run on it.
Also, the 2892 has had a thermal barrier coating applied to interior of the runners, lifter valley, and water passages.
What's going to be faster, and why?

I'd probably run the 2892 & 950.
But I don't reckon there'd be a lot of difference between the 2.

Its a real hard call on this one!
The stock flow out of those heads is enough to make 700 hp from those cubes.
To me the the detail is what the car can use more of on a so so prepped track surface.
The 2892 with its runner lenght will make more mid torque , the shorter runners of the 2970 and the Dom more top end .
I would say that your going to be the one to nail down what works better by trying both of those combo's out at the track!
At the strip I don't think the heat coating shows a difference until the last 3 seconds of the run, or when / if round Robin time comes about.
How old are your slick's and how many runs are on them?
I have seen all too many good combo's that could not run the numbers due to 3 year old slicks with only what amounts to 1 full season of racing on them!

I appreciate everyone's comments. I think you fellas are right, I'm probably splitting hairs here. I'm gonna run the 2892 just because I have a wad of money in it, and I'm gonna get a little use out of the thing for some satisfaction.
Mag2555, man that would be a lot of work changing those manifolds out at the dragstrip at the same test and tune session. My ole back isn't what it use to be for sure. And to answer your question, I'm gonna get some brand new Hoosier 28x9's just to eliminate that variable. We're allowed 28x10.5's, but on the stock fenderwells on this year Nova, at our ride height, they rub a little too much for my liking.
DV, I've talked to you several times on the phone before getting cams for other engine builds, and they've always worked out really good. I don't care what these naysayers say to you, every suggestion I've followed in your books has allowed me to make more power than I otherwise would have on my own, mostly because I don't own a dyno and there is not one conveniently close to me. All this advice is cheap too. All I have to do is buy one of your books on the appropriate subject. Been meaning to get to one of your seminars also. Anyways, thanks man.
