I have to replace a pair of interlocking valve seats on a SBC head.
I have never had to replace seats that interlock. The stand alones I have done plenty.
Before starting this is there any caveats or gotchas I should be aware of?
Can I remove both seats, install the intake and then cut the overlap for the exhaust?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Installing interlocking valve seat?
Neal do you remove only one seat at a time?
Remove intake seat cut for next oversize install seat and then repeat for exhaust?
I have to do some welding on the combustion chamber so I plan on welding first.
Grind and finish CC.
Remove intake seat and install new, remove exhaust seat and install new.
Sound OK?
Thanks

Re: Installing interlocking valve seat?
I grind a minimal flat on the exhaust seat where it normally would contact the intake seat, so it won't push on it and distort it.

Don't know what heads or seats you are using but a few heads (Brodix for one ) uses a 3/8 deep seat on the exhaust and a 5/16 deep seat on the intake . Thus the intake is setting over the exhaust at the overlap . Meaning exhaust first then intake ? IMHO Dan

Re: Installing interlocking valve seat?
Just remove both seats at the same time. I have no issues cutting into the intake seat when cutting the exhaust counter bore. Using a dcm with a live carbide pilot.
I have cut into the exh seat to install an intake. Only because the customer didn't want to change both.
