It may be no big deal, or it may be a lazy ass innefecient burning pig, I dunno. But I do know there is pretty decent gains to be had by getting the combustion space closer to ideal.

With that cam I'd be happy with 9.5:1
Right agree...point being, it's like having two motors. Street car with open chambers on race day change heads and intake and drop a second or two.

I'm hoping to talk to someone that did this already.

I have the parts off the engine when I bought it, idk if the builder kept an eye on things, the conn bearings were worn to the copper on the uppers and the main bearings had a bunch of scratches. I bought a crank and rods, had the block done so I am hoping I can build something to get couple thousand miles out of it. If I get 50,000 miles out of my first lower engine build...I'll feel good.

Using those pistons- what the cheapest 'decent' alume head you can spec that will work?

I haven't even looked into aluminum heads.

I believe the pistons are very close the an LS6 piston.

I don't know your usage or application, but personally I hate the ' I should have' part later on.

It shows L2359F as being a flat top piston with 4 valve reliefs for a 455.

Are you sure it's not L2349F? Domed for a 454 with closed chamber heads?

Well my goal isnt a torque monster going down the strip at 200mph. My goal is just a 454 with a good sound and some launch.

I'm putting a three barrel on there...lol.
