Freelander crank specs.

Post by gn69z28 »

2005 Landover Freelander 2.5 V6. Gas engine, customer gave the engine code KB6 . Does anyone have the crankshaft specs? I cannot find anything online. I just need to check if the journals are ok standard. Thanks.

This is for the Direct injection engine. I think it is KV6 ?

Rods 2.1274-2.1281" (54.037-54.055 MM)

Mains 2.6666-2.6673" (67.731-67.749 MM)

End play .004-.012" (.100-.300 MM)

This is from the AERA software. Your machine shop should be an AERA member and should be able to get this information for you :)

Are you saying this is a similar engine ? I dont think the Freelander was DI.

on a side note....
I work for a Rover dealer and if I recall correctly the engine factory went bankrupt or some type of demise... we had freelanders stacked up waiting for engines.
If you are in the UK it may be different ? Do they still sell them there?

Specs for the LandRover KV6 2.5L('96-'05)are at the following link:

As far as I can tell, and knowing nothing about those except what I've researched, it appears the customer gave you the incorrect engine code. 2005 has a KV6 according to any and all documentation I've come across. KB6 isn't a designation I've seen them use anywhere for anything, including their 2.5L engine.

The KV6 was built from 1996-2005 and had no other designation before this, so it can't be KB6. It was initially designed to replace the Honda 2.7L V6 they had been using before this. It was eventually re-designated as the NV6 after moving production to China. It was also licensed to KIA and can be found in a few KIA models, as well.

KV6 isn't direct injection. The newest version may be but not the KV6 from '96-'05. Maybe the NV6?

You are correct as the 2005 Freelander used a KV6 from 1996-2005. KB6 never existed. It was known as the KV6 from the moment it was produced in 1996.

In reference to the KB6 my boss could have written down the wrong thing when talking to the customer. He does that a lot.

Being that B and V sound so much alike, it's quite possible he heard wrong, also. It would be an easy mistake for anyone to make, especially if they were speaking over the phone.
