Re: Dial bore gauge marks on bearings
I always tell customers that bearing clearance's are confirmed with a dial bore gauge only.
And let them know that if for what ever reason someone is inside it later on and see's them
you will know why they are there and not freak out about it.
There is no other way to confirm cam bearing ID when installed so there is no difference in any of the other bearings.

OK Exhaustgases, we are all open to learning new ways to accomplish a task ESPECIALLY if it is a GOOD idea to get to the answer (dimension in this case) please fire away. Mark H.

Re: Dial bore gauge marks on bearings
Once again it is good to remember there is a difference between STATIC bearing clearance measurement and DYNAMIC
bearing clearance measurement. Bearings, bores and journals are subject to deformations due to load, which then alter actual clearances.

YeahBUT. we can't do much about that before the fact.
We can only measure the tightest point.
We have to depend on the bearing mfgs to cover us there.

Re: Dial bore gauge marks on bearings
Yes David R., The big end of connecting rods is one example of where deformation can occur at high engine speeds. This is an example of where high dollar/top quality parts such as Carrillo (or) Pankl are LESS likely to be an issue....agree Mark H.

Re: Dial bore gauge marks on bearings
ive never had a problem with the marks either.also have mixed shells to get proper clearance.never a problem.

Anal to the max. If you can't feel it with your finger the oil film won't care too much.
If you can't feel it, it is micron scale or smaller. The oil film is of the order of 50 microns and doesn't really care if there is a tiny spot where the oil film is 51 microns thick.

Re: Dial bore gauge marks on bearings
We see the gauge marks on the bearings all the time when we get the engine back for a freshen. no problems.
If anyone thinks this causes a problem, well then,I have a bridge I want to sell them!
