Got an oil pan(Stef's B&B) without the oil dipstick (91087)
Says that its a 5.5L pan, and with the filter it's 6L

Is there a simple way to determine the proper oil level?

Or am I over thinking this? and just put 6L in ?

I use a 91088 & have 6.5 quarts in it. I had to reweld mine , it leaked on the back.

I put one of these on as I didn't want a dipstick but needed to monitor the level.

Interesting, I've never seen that gauge before.

I got it from McMaster Carr I believe. It's mainly a oil level- temp sight glass for a hydraulic tank for various types of machines.

5.5Liters sounds right = 5.75 quarts

Why add more than 5 quarts? What do you gain with a higher oil level?

Not a big deal to get on my hands and knees and peek thru the rear of the front tire. Also I can have somebody hold it at 2 grand and can tell how much oil is up in the motor. Thanks Kevin for providing a link.

Do you recall what a typical amount is?

I can’t find the P/N I have, but I bought a reflective sight window from LENZ with a weld-in bung for the side of my oil pan. It was about $65 shipped. Call Lenz and they will tell you what you need.

I have not done that yet. I have checked it while priming the motor on the engine stand though and it's almost 2 qts.
