Oil level

Re: Oil level
Has anybody tried using a self adhesive temperature strip on the side of their oil pan (like used on cylinder heads) as a form of level indicator? Think it would work?

Re: Oil level
Not well, considering the oil level in the pan is subject to various G-forces plus splash and spray, irregular drainage, etc.
I suppose it would work best on a dyno where the engine-and-mounting cradle doesn't accelerate, brake, or corner.

Running level is key. I like the sight glass idea... but seeing it could be an issue. Is it below the tray with 4-6 quarts in the pan sitting at car stance? I would think if it says ; 5- 6 quart pan then the loss in motor plus filter is below 5-6 in the pan. I filled mine on the bench to see where 4, 5 and 6 quarts puts it. Then we installed plugs at each quart line. Also installed temp sender.
