A lot of people I recently talked with, (25 or so about why they thought not to send an entry), were intimidated because of the "OPEN" intake rules and would have likely thought differently if there was a "class" for internally modified cast manifold, single 4 barrel, injection or carb stuff.

After talking with Greg ... something like this, most probably won't happen.

A little perspective is needed here; the top winners in each of the two classes had a “cast” tunnel ram manifold.
The second place finisher in the Inline class was “one” point behind the first place winner with a “cast” single plane
with a 4150 carb! SAM school won the Xtreme Street (4K-8K RPM) 2012 EMC with a single plane and carb.
There was also only one sheet metal manifold in the contest.
I would like to see some posts here with more specifics from some of those “25” who had a problem with the manifold rule.

A lot of those people were likely searching for some excuse to not have sent-in an entry.

I wanted to rag them some again next year if their excuse was no longer viable but, they would probably just have figured another one anyway. :-k
