I havent viewed the spreadsheet yet but if you look at the last 2 or 3 pulls where its showing 480ish pounds and look at coolant temp on those you will see we were playing with cold water in the engine. I kind of wanted to see the effect of it and he wanted more facebook power so... :roll:

I believe the best pull with normal water temps was 465ftlbs and 488 or 484hp. Some changes from the beginning of the thread were made. A used set of pac 1518 springs were used on it. Joe Creason donated those. 1.94 intake valve 52 degree seat 1.5 ex 50 degree. 238 248 .525 .500 104 cam was used....Comp Marine lobes.

It runs good. Brenden is ecstatic about it....."Dale" seems like a nice tight little motor and as always plenty of things i would do differently now...
Good build, I bet he can't wait to get it in the car.

Whew! Thats kinda amazing for an iron head budget build on what 355 cubes. Makes me more optimistic for my Gen II LT1 build in the make. I won't use as much or even nearly as much cam though. Did you change valves? I cant see what valves your using so I assume they are stock size though I did read 1.8 installed height meaning longer stems (I think). The stock LT1 (Gen II) heads flow very similar to the vortecs but I had larger 2.00" and 1.55" valves put in my stock LT1 heads and kinda regret it. I should have opened up the chambers to unshroud the larger valves but didn't so I think the stock valves would at least have better "quality flow" with unmodified chambers.

That may be a new HP/ valve window area record ?? LOL
So,.... low lift flow adds low rpm power ?
How much low lift flowZ could a 1.94 valve with a 52* seats have ?
Small valves don't add power below peak TQ ?
Steep seats don't either ?

Open ex valve 8*-10* earlier and close In valve 4* later?

Looks like it's short on something ?? Short on peak TQ to peak HP spread.

Did you figure what your mufflers need to flow for that engine ??
Hate to see it loose a bunch of power in the car cause of low muffler flowZ.

104 lsa 101 icl.

1.94 valve, minus .250 for 52 degree seat = 1.69 valve size... run that on 128 and you get a 104 LSA... Just Saying!

Yeah, something along those lines. That'd be 242 258 108 there.

For the sake of learning I would do Comp lobes 13064 intake 13068 exhaust on 108-110 ish. I even offered to get this cam prior to dynoing on my dime, but it turns out not everyone is as eager to rip engines apart on the dyno as I am. #-o So they weren't interested. I can't say I blame them, it wouldn't have stayed in the engine anyway, probably wouldn't be a very good daily driver cam.

I agree. I would like to see what some different valve events did to that spread, I think they are contributing to that. But it could just be something not quite shaped right in the port, not enough window area etc etc. It would be fun to find out. I think it should make more horsepower then it does from what it makes at peak torque...it just sheds torque too fast after that point. What's your thoughts?

Also more hindsight......I would have added a little more fuel up top, and I would have liked to have pulled it out to 6800-7000 for the data alone. Also the manifold was left burr finished, without that it's hard to say what it would have made :lol:

Stock valves, getting to 1.8 installed height was partly due to the beehive retainers, and partly the result of the very sunken valve job.

Also Im always happy with those Marine and HUC lobes from Comp. Valvetrain is dead quiet at idle, and very stable without much spring pressure. Not the meanest lobes out there but they work good for this kind of stuff.
