I did some measuring in the bowls for you. If you don't have a ultrasonic thickness gauge call it done. I did mine before I had a good one. I also knew it was a thin casting so I worked on boosting the efficiency and not increasing the volume much. Mine cc about 180cc. Thanks, Charlie

I scribed the port entrance with a 1205, thinking of porting it to that cause when i put a 1204 on it the gasket hung lower than the roof, theres nothing to be gained by lowering the floor correct? leave that alone besides quickly cleaning the casting flash off? Pushrod pinch was .930, should i go 1.000 or 1.050?

As you look into the Intake flange you need to kick the common wall over( widen the port) all the way down to the rear wall of the valve bowl.
Once you size your valve bowl Throat you want most of the port width to be on the common wall size of the runner as you look down into the bowl .
The straighter this wall is the better.
Here's I picture of such a reworked runner , though not in a Chevy head.

If you can't get it up or out, you gotta go down . To get the area.tchapps88 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 24, 2018 11:44 am I scribed the port entrance with a 1205, thinking of porting it to that cause when i put a 1204 on it the gasket hung lower than the roof, theres nothing to be gained by lowering the floor correct? leave that alone besides quickly cleaning the casting flash off? For reference my ports are 2.010" x 1.210" with a 1.100" pinch. SSRH is .800". There's nothing to be gained on the floor if the shape is correct.tchapps88 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 24, 2018 11:44 am I scribed the port entrance with a 1205, thinking of porting it to that cause when i put a 1204 on it the gasket hung lower than the roof, theres nothing to be gained by lowering the floor correct? leave that alone besides quickly cleaning the casting flash off? The stock port wall at the head bolt on the common wall is like .180" thick and with taking very careful measurements you want to grind that back to .060" to straight out the wall.

think im gona call this good, went back and trimed down the guide area some more, knocked down the bolt buldge but didnt get agressive as i didnt want to break through, opened up the pushrod pinch to 1.050, did the top and sides to a 1205, left the floor alone its .080 away from 1205 gasket line. if it hit 225cfm at .500 i will be happy.

Nice work. Do you think the L98 083 iron castings will flow about the same with the same port work? This is my first attempt porting heads so I figured I would give it a try.
