Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
MK's were Camaro and Nova. 327-275 horse, small chamber 1.94-1.50 heads, .390/.410 hydraulic cams, cast iron intake with a QJet, flat top pistons with 4 valve reliefs.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
thanks ten that was quick. i know the engine. as i am a chev2 guy and this is an engine that is run in the stock and SS class and run fast. same in the camaros art
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
Since they were only offered with manual transmission, Tonawanda legend has it those were built and rated at 275hp because they fit some then-current NHRA class especially well.

Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
Yes it is. A little trivia: the '66 327-275's have a different cam than the '67 and '68's. Also, the '66's can use either a small 1.500/1.500 Holley, an AVS or QJet. The '67-'68's can only use the QJet.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
As long as we're going down this long-lost-dead-end road, what were the differences between the '62 250hp, the '66 275hp and the '62 300hp? I remember a few.
Bonus question - how many horsepower ratings were there for the 327"? I recollect the 210, 235, 250, 275, 300, 340, 350, 360, 365, 375; what else can you remember?
Tie breaker - did Chevrolet ever offer more different horsepower ratings for any one displacement?

Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
Here is a little info. The 62 250 hp had small valve heads and a rochester 4 bbl. The 62 300 hp had the "461" 1.94" int and 1.50" exh. valve heads and a carter AFB 4 bbl. 66-67 nova/chevy II engine blocks were all alone because of oil filter deepened location due to location for stick shift pivot ball for cross shaft location. Grumpy also said these blocks had a higher percentage of nickel also. I will add more later if needed.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
I would think that the 350 would have a significant number of horsepower ratings, given that it existed through the dark days when American automakers were trying to figure out how to make engines run clean, and horsepower ratings changed practically every model year as they made steps forward and steps back. As a bonus, it straddled the change between gross ratings and net.PackardV8 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:15 pm As long as we're going down this long-lost-dead-end road, what were the differences between the '62 250hp, the '66 275hp and the '62 300hp? They DID make the 3.48" stroke, 4" bore engine from the late 60s through the late 90s, after all. From Rochester carbs to Vortec fuel spiders and everything in between. (Say, does the LT1/LT4 count? Same displacement, after all)
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
And then there was the '68 327-250. It had the 307's 1.75/1.50 69 cc heads, 4 valve relief flat tops, .390/.410 cam and cast iron intake with a QJet. These were available in the Chevelle and full size cars only.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
Don't forget the '67 327-325 L79 (Chevelles only) and the '68 327-325 L79. The '67 had the same alum. intake and 585 Holley that the '66 327-350 L79 did but was rated 25 hp less. The '68 327-325 L79 (Chevelle and Chevy II only) had a cast iron intake and QJet.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
I have a '64 327 AFB stock cast iron intake in my garage! I think that it is a one year intake! And fwiw, I do figure that it is the best stock intake made back then until the Z-28 hi-rise came out.fdicrasto wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:33 pm Here is a little info. Now what is this the 275 HP/327's had a different cam in them than the old -929??
Please post back said cam's spec's so I will learn something.
Heck, my bought new '67 350SS Camaro engine had the old 283, -929 hy-cam in it stock.. I let my Buddy, "Nut's", put a -151, 350Hp/327 cam in it and it woke right up!!

Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
The '66 327/275's had the .399-.399 cam....same as used in the 283/220, 327/250 and 327/300.
The '929' cam (.390-.410) did not come into use until 1967 in the 327/275. It was developed for the '67 350/295 Camaro engine and thus became the defacto cam for virtually all hydraulic lifter small blocks.
Re: id of mid 60s327 engine
The pre-EGR cast iron QJet intakes outflow the cast iron AFB intake by a considerable amount. The post EGR cast iron QJet intakes are even better.
