Is it possible......

Post by Rowdy Yates »

Would it be possible to fill the runner floors on a Ls3 head and relocate the intake bolt pattern to fit a Ls7 intake? Found a set of heads I kinda like yet don't like the low laying runner of the Ls3. L

More than a little OT and you've possibly heard it before :), but is/was your Mom a Clint Eastwood fan?

I don't know about all that but did have Ls7 heads done by D. Morgan to fit a 4.030 bore. BTW there called Rowdy Yates Ls7 heads. Have Frankenstein stg. 1 Ls3 heads also. I like doing or trying to make heads new design would be a 10 degree 3 degree canted valve layout. Cost to make or design a head is to much so I adapt and get it done. Friend likes the idea just would need to epoxy the floors and move the intake bolts to match. Canted valve Ls 7 heads. Here's a example... Rowdy Yates heads. ....

2.200 Titanium stock LS7 intake

1.550 Ferrea 24° exhaust

CCFM

Lift No. 1 No. 2

-------- ------- -------

0.2000 111.2 165.2

0.3000 167.2 238.7

0.4000 191.3 300.6

0.5000 213.8 336.2

0.6000 219.9 360.1

0.7000 222.8 379.7

0.8000 225.0 370.0

Angle mill for 1 degree with the work listed above... Canted valve Ls 7 heads without having to pay over $10k for a billet head or having someone do a 1 off casting....We all know what works. I've asked for a few years and was told Mozez, Lsx-R or Dart new 10 degree heads..... +340 cc intake runners and having to use titanium valves because of the length. Thought it out and...... Done it again. Without the Low laying Ls3 runners. Friend is willing after the 1st of the year. I posted a ? that I already had the answer to. Made you look...... 8)

Sounds like you have all the answers. Knock yourself out.
Am I losing it, or is that extremely hard to read?

We all know or should know that a canted valve layout is better. The problem is it's for higher dollar heads or for guys with deep pockets.... I've asked TFS along with other head manufacturers is this a good idea and all have answered yes. Yet none willing to make one for the normal Ls head. So what's a person to do? The Ls 3 head runner placement is not better than the Ls 7. They've made what I've asked for just in the Ls3 head. With some work a person can have the best of both worlds. Fill like Ford with Cleveland heads and High dollar Lsx heads shouldn't be the only ones to take advantage of what we know works or is better...

"Rowdy Yates" was the name of Clint Eastwoods character in the TV Series "Rawhide" from 1960 or so.
Yeah Im 36 but my mom loves Clint, and all things cheesy western. I think Clint was on there for half a decade at least

Correct brother.... And he would do most anything to help trail boss Mr. Favors . I'll do most anything to help the smaller bore Ls guys. Friend is making 811 NA at the crank and running mid 8's with a 416 factory Ls3 heads and race gas. Car weighs 2780.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think Eric Fleming, (Gil Favors), was supposed to have been cast as Dirty Harry, but something happened to him?

I found what happened to him!!

Per wiki -- Death[edit]

After Fleming left Rawhide at the end of the 1964–1965 season (the series continued for only 13 more episodes before it was canceled by CBS), he took part in a Doris Day vehicle, The Glass Bottom Boat, playing a suave spy. He was then signed to star in High Jungle, a MGM adventure film shot in Peru. During a scene in the final stages of the film's production, Fleming and co-star Nico Minardos were in a dugout canoe that overturned in the Huallaga River. Minardos managed to swim to safety, but Fleming was swept away by the current and drowned on September 28, 1966.[7] Fleming was 41 years old.

So Clint got the job.

If you read the Wikipedia about Dirty Harry, just about everyone was offered the Dirty Harry role including John Wayne and Frank Sinatra. Clint Eastwood was great in that role, but John Wayne would have been really cool. It would have been great to see him in a modern non-western role.
