BeCu , Ampco 45 and copper alloys with ductile iron

Post by joespanova »

I am replacing steel intakes ( valves ) with titanium and the question concerning seats , as far as WHICH alloy is the best substitution ( over Be Cu ) comes up.
The issue of how "compatible" is a copper alloy seat with a ductile iron exhaust seat ALSO comes up.
I don't want to replace the exhaust seats because I'm retaining the steel valves.
So 2 things:
Will copper alloy intake seats work well with ductile iron exhaust seats ( expansion rates ) and what's the best alternative to Be Cu?
And yes , this is only for drag race duty.
Thanks

Hello Joe: passing this on to you, i saw a video on facebook (i believe it was), where Matt Bieneman D.B.A. MBE Cylinder Heads was telling about different Valve seat materials. You should try to find that information and view it. I can tell you this much, there was one example on the table in front of him which had the color of pure brass which he said............... . If you can not find the video PM me. Mark H. :)

You can run the copper alloy seats with the iron seats. It works fine.

Tell me about using ductile iron with titanium. My understanding is 45degree seats no problem , going to 55 requires copper alloy?
