What set of SBC 6.0 rods has the best cam clearance for 383

Post by bigmike »

Trying to get away from using small base circle cam on SBC 383. What set of SBC 6.0 rods under $750 a set would help me achieve my goal. I been looking at the Compstar H beam, Manley H beam, Scat Pro Comp, lunati voodoo stroker rods 70160003-8 (hard to come by right now 1 to 3 months away)., also not opposed to using something like Howards Cams Precision Dense Forged Connecting Rods PPF6000 in this engine if they get me cam clearance needed. Thanks all.

Callies has a set of stroker rods that will clear in a 434. The under $700 will leave the ones I'm thinking of out.
The Scat I-beams are HP limited. You need to check for clearances while trial assembling the engine no matter who's rods you end up buying.

Trying to get away from using small base circle cam on SBC 383.
Is it going to be a 450hp 383" or a 650hp 383"?

Thanks you wouldn't happen to know what version of the Skat I beam you used? Scat has three different versions of their I beam rods.

The best option for scat is the 26000716 for a 6" and a 25700716 for a 5.7 rod.
They are a profiled bear and will clear most cams used in a 350 block.

6" Scat H beams here, 3.75 crank and .360 lobes. 1.140 base circle. Good clearance.

another vote for the scat pro 7/16 rod, had them in a 715hp 408 Cleveland and never broke them shifting at 7,600 rpm. They will be fine, also used a set in a 383 for a boat with a standard base circle hydraulic roller cam, no issues clearing the cam. That motor made 370hp/460 ft/lbs and spends hours on end at 4,000 rpm pulling kids on a tube.
