Is This Cam Safe To Use?
The cam is fine except for this one spot on the base of a lobe. It seems like a defect in the metal - it is not a rust spot. I have not yet inspected the roller lifter that was riding on that lobe. I am also nervous about reusing the roller lifters on a new cam.
The new parts were installed about 10 years ago and the car has been sitting for a couple of years and then maybe just a couple of tanks of gas per year. So not used much but not new either.
Thanks for taking a look.

I agree, that's just going to start opening up as.it runs. I am assuming a hydraulic roller by the looks of the lobe, and it's a cast core

update:
Machine shop said it looks like a stain from something dripping on it and because it is on the back side, it will be fine...But he just glanced at it. Blow up a pic and it looks like it will open up - I got a new cam....now if I could only find an engine cam plug for the back of the block
