Header for BB Camaro ??
Got what I hope is a fairly easy question about header size. Friend has a stock-block 454 Chevy going into a 69 Camaro, 4-speed car that will be mostly street but wants good 1/4 mile times. Has aftermarket heads, old Edelbrock single, cam, and 10/1 CR. (Note: we did not build it and not sure exactly what is inside besides that). Supposed to make around 600 hp. Plan to maybe put 100 shot of NOS. Need to select headers. I am recommending he run 2" primaries but others are saying he needs at least 2-1/8". I have very dated experience with BB Chevys. Saying we can realistically get 700 hp out of it, what size header should we buy? Thanks.

2 inch should be fine. Maybe not perfect but fine. Doesn't sound like you need anything trick, just find something that fits.

2 1/8" is too big for the stock flow rate of those heads even with the concideration of the use of some NOS!

Is there a good rule-of-thumb for header size on a BB Chevy based on how much horsepower you are trying to make?

even 2 inch is a bit big. 17/8 is what i would recommend or even 1 3/4 by 3
Re: Header for BB Camaro ??
The smaller sizes are often correct from a tuning standpoint, but leave a big step down at the port opening...
