X2 , the nitriding makes them an even better valve.

I just put a set in my Profiler heads on my 421 I dyno'ed earlier. Seem to be doing just fine. Fit and finish on them seemed very nice.

So is the black "Nitro" valve made out of a different SS material or just a coating?
I have seen them both advertised at SI and Engine Pro but thought of it more of a marketing ploy than anything else

It's a coating...not like Teflon or anything sprayed on. Nitride won't come off, it's a surface treatment similar to anodizing aluminum.

This particular form of nitriding is referred to as "QPQ" process which is the abbreviation for "quench- polish -quench". As said in the Engine Pro video this is not a coating process but an actual metal treatment process that very much changes the material properties of the valve and indeed improves the strength, and wear ability of the valve and its stem. I've experienced that amazing improvement in wear of these stems in bronze guides and I have also had engines where a valve contacted the piston from dropped or broken valve lock and these valves some of which were bent 90 degrees and the heads still did not break off and drop into the cylinder.

Dave Sutton, the guy in that video, is truly one of the best parts guys in the business. Obviously that has nothing to do with the valves, which are a great value, but just saying

Is this the same as A1 sold back in the 90s and Howards are selling nowadays?

Don't know what source Howards gets their black nitirided valves from but I believe they are the same process valves and there is a chance that Engine Pro or their source are supplying them.

Seems the same Chevy valves are offered at Engine Pro and Howards...

Note the BBB name on the parts rack in one photo... might be the outfit doing the treatment.
