602 crate block

Post by tracyracin » Thu Jun 21, 2018 8:16 pm

I really hope this doesn't turn into a pissing match.

I want to build a back up engine this winter to my open engine. I have a dog turd of a 602 laying in the shop. Has anyone used the block to make a .040 or .060 over engine? **I am not trying to cheat up a crate engine** all I want to use is the block. Obviously I'll sonic test and all that.. but am I wasting time from the get go?

Okay. I wasn't sure if people have noticed the castings being thinner or not

Keep in mind, on over bores, your reducing cylinder thickness by half the amount in any one spot. From .030 to .040, the bores are only .005 thinner. That's nothing. And at .060 its only .015 thinner from .030

If it's the same casting the 604's and 603's use, it should have 880 cast on each side.

We have used these up to 4.050" bore at over 500 HP in circle track engines, we do convert to billet main caps. The center three mains are notorious for breaking at 450 HP an above.

Where did you get the billet caps at? I am looking to for something in the 625 range on hp.

Isn't it just a pretty standard 350HO style block? They should be available from lots of places, AFAIK. Everything I see says those blocks are nothing special.

10243880 works for 604 or 602, 14093638 can be a 602 only....casting number on back of block below dizzy!
