Figure what connectors you need, how many 2 wire, 3 wire, awg. .etc imo you should buy what you need vs a kit. Kits may contain stuff you don't need.

Years ago I bought a bunch from summit as they sold them under their name. You could get packs of six of each number of connections and so I put my own kit together. Yes I bought more than I would need, but I still have some and have used many over the years after the first project was done. I also used more on that project that I originally planned on. I do like the amazon idea. I also might surf ebay too.

I've bought two or three Summit-branded "kits". What I bought (a long time ago) is either this kit, or one similar to it.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-900404

I also bought a "Casper's" kit from Summit. The Casper kit was a bit bigger. Mine is similar to this one
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cei-103005 The Caspers kit includes a larger-variety of connectors. The Caspers kit also includes a connector release tool, for pulling the metal connector out of the plastic body. BE CAREFUL, the tool is fragile. (I keep two, so that when one gets damaged, I still have another to keep working with.)

I just took a look at the Summit site. They do have several brands of connector kits, including
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/apt-9476/overview/ and
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/qcr-50-380/overview/

Any of these kits make a good "starter" assortment. Along the way, I've bought an additional size of the metal connectors, (18--20 gauge, and 14--16 gauge are common, I bought some for 12-gauge) at least one more size of seals, (12 gauge, and I think 20--22 gauge) some plugs for cavities that don't have wires in them (two wires and one plug in a three-cavity connector, or four plugs in a four-cavity connector making a "dummy" connector to protect a disconnected connector. The plugs keep contamination out.

In short, I bought a pre-packaged assortment, then added extra stuff to suit whatever special project I'm working on. Summit has a good assortment of individual items from several brand names. As I use up the plastic bodies and the metal terminals and seals, I reorder what I've used so as to keep the "kits" restocked.

The Summit site uses several keywords for these products--Weatherpack, Weather Pack, Weather-Tite, Weatherproof, etc.

I bought my crimping tool from Mac decades ago. Summit sells a similar tool.

My Mac version works fine, but is not the best-possible solution. When I did this professionally, the company supplied really-expensive ratcheting tools that made the "W" crimp on the conductor, but a circular crimp on the insulator/seal. The tool I linked to makes "W" crimps on both.

I have no doubt that Jegs or Amazon can supply all this stuff, too.

I buy most of my electrical parts here: https://www.delcity.net/

https://www.waytekwire.com/wps/portal/en/products is another place but seems to be more oriented to volume sales.

Waytek, Mouser electronics, delcity all good...

Waytek is the cheapest for bulk lots they have price breaks as amounts go up same as mouser, but you can still buy less...

"Best" at what price?

The production-grade crimping tools are hugely expensive. Professional Repair grade tools are expensive. Some folks cry about the price of consumer-grade tools. I'm sure Hazzard Fraught sells some Chinese junk that can get the job done if you have all day to do it.

When it was my money, I bought a Mac TCT1028, $42 list price--although I got mine a LONG time ago. Far as I know, the Summit version would work just as well--but I've never held one in my hand. I'm sure there are knockoffs that are of Hazzard Fraught quality.

At this point, I might make different choices. There's a huge variety of wire-crimping tools.
